Screening test; positive result is necessary but not sufficient evidence of active HCV (false positives in autoimmune disease, cleared infections retain antibodies indefinitely). Active infection requires BIO-HCV-RNA detectable; rules engine should branch on HCV-RNA positivity, not antibody alone, for any DAA / treatment decision. Currently consumed by: ALGO-MM-1L (etiology rail — coordinate DAA with hepatologist if HCV+). Companion biomarker BIO-HCV-RNA carries the quantitative load and drives the HCV-MZL etiologically-driven algorithm.
